Robbie Schoonmaker’s Personal Background
I moved around the Midwest early in life before my family settled in Colorado Springs, CO. I grew up loving the beauty and peacefulness of the Rocky Mountains. Later I attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, where I studied History.
I met my wife in Columbia, MO, while in graduate school. We were married in 1999 and started our family in 2000. We have eight children (six boys and two girls) from ages 14 to 1. My wife Marlene is an RN and perpetual student. Outside of work, most of my time is spent with my family. We recently moved to a small ranch in the foothills of the Portneuf Range in southeastern Idaho. I enjoy being outdoors, exercise and sports, reading history, family field trips, and wandering around the ranch.
Other interesting things about me:
- I am an Eagle Scout.
- I’m the sixth of eleven children—my wife is the twelfth of twelve.
- I completed the Squaw Peak 50 mile trail run in 2010.
- Our family raised kangaroos on a small farm in Lake Shore, UT.
- Our last four children were born at home.
